3,500 Santas Take Over Toulouse for the Corrida de Noël

On Sunday, December 14, Toulouse, the Pink City, was overrun by thousands of Santas throughout the morning. It was a chance to run one last race before the holidays and, above all, to support a good cause by raising funds for Purpan Children’s Hospital.

The successive starts of the 11th Corrida de Noël de Toulouse got underway from 8:30 a.m. on Place de la Daurade, one of the city’s most emblematic landmarks. More than 3,500 participants took part in the various events, from the 5K fun run and 10K Nordic walking event to the 5K and 10K races. The sky was grey rather than pink, despite the city’s nickname, but that did nothing to dampen the celebrations just a stone’s throw from Toulouse’s Capitole.

Two distinguished patrons attended the event this year. Thierry and Yan Corbarieu, father and son, completed an extraordinary round-the-world journey featuring 20,000 kilometers by bike, 5,000 kilometers rowing across the Atlantic, then 215 kilometers on foot along the Canal du Midi to Place du Capitole in Toulouse. They set themselves the challenge in just over seven months and completed it last June.

A race with a cause at its heart

At the 10th edition of Toulouse’s Corrida de Noël, €10,000 was raised for Purpan Children’s Hospital. This year, the total reached €15,000, once again supporting the children treated in the orthopedic surgery department at Purpan University Hospital. The increase reflects the event’s growing collective commitment. Since its creation, the race has been about more than festive fun: its heart remains firmly charitable. Having fun and making a difference are not mutually exclusive, and that is the principle guiding the organizers of an event that has been part of the Occitan capital for 11 years. This charity race, organized in partnership with Toulouse University Hospital and the Institut Saint-Jacques, gives everyone the chance to help fund innovative projects for patients, healthcare professionals and medical research.

A route through the heart of the Pink City

The course offered runners a chance to take in the full character of the City of a Thousand Bricks. Starting at the foot of the Capitole, runners headed for the Tounis quays before crossing the Garonne via Pont Saint-Michel to reach the opposite bank. A loop along the Prairie des Filtres quickly took them into the Saint-Cyprien district, before they returned to the city center via Pont Saint-Pierre and the street of the same name, all the way back to the start and finish. Over the years, the city has preserved its authenticity. From Carlos Gardel to Claude Nougaro, these local artists made Toulouse a true showcase for culture and song, celebrating the richness of the region, best appreciated at times through a guided stroll or a shared effort.

No holding back at the front

The winner of the Toulouse Marathon on November 4, Adrien Latestere of Team Foulées Pau Béarn, claimed a particularly meaningful victory, more than a month after “the biggest win of his life .” Running 33:25, he dominated the 10K and its 1,735 finishers, at peace with himself, ahead of Hippolyte Sugranes (33:54) and Millau Grands Causses triathlete Corentin Chesse (34:00).

In the women’s race, local runner Lucile Seity of SA Toulouse UC took the win in 40:06. She was followed by Lucile Pineau, a pediatric physiotherapist by profession and a recreational runner in her spare time (40:13), and Toulouse Métropole prospect Elisa Vigneron, who crossed the line with a broad smile in 41:37. Her autumn training, carefully structured within her triathlon club, is clearly starting to pay off.

Capped at 3,000 participants for logistical and safety reasons, the Corrida de Noël de Toulouse is as appealing for the party it creates as for the cause it supports. It also draws runners for other reasons: preparing for the season ahead, testing themselves in the middle of their competitive calendar or simply enjoying one more race before the winter break.
