In the heart of the City of the Popes, the Avignon Marathon is launching a first edition focused on heritage and performance. The course starts in the city center before weaving through Avignon’s historic streets and running alongside its famous ramparts. Runners pass in front of the Palais des Papes, the City Hall, the Opera and the Pont Saint-Bénézet, before reaching the banks of the Rhône.
The route then continues onto the Île de la Barthelasse, offering a change of scenery with long, more open and fast sections. With an elevation gain limited to around 80 meters, the marathon appeals both to runners chasing a personal best and to those who want to discover the city in a different way. To offer different formats, the event also features a half marathon, built on the same concept, combining Avignon’s heritage with passages on the Île de la Barthelasse. A race that brings together discovering the city, athletic effort, and the atmosphere of a major community event.
