The Biarritz – Basque Country International Marathon is a must-attend event for runners in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, shining both nationally and internationally. Famous for its landmarks, like the legendary Rocher de la Vierge, but also for its breathtaking scenery, Biarritz is a highly popular city during the summer season and never lacks assets to attract tourists.

This event owes part of its fame to its difficulty since it is one of the rare marathons with significant elevation gain : around 500 meters! This positive elevation inevitably impacts the difficulty and the technical nature of the course. Every year it brings together valiant runners of several nationalities. This marathon is a rich event, with several races, such as the Half Marathon and its 250 meters of positive elevation gain, which seems to be the perfect option before taking on the flagship distance.

Generosity is the watchword for this event, notably through the magnificent landscapes that unfold along the route. The start is given with great fanfare in the legendary Stade Aguiléra which usually hosts matches for the Biarritz Olympique rugby team. The rest of the route offers the discovery of Lac Marion and Mouriscot lakes, then continues by crossing typical villages such as Bassussarry, Arcangues and Bidart. Milady Beach or Marbella are also part of the range of panoramas offered by the Biarritz Olympique Athlétisme club. This marathon aims to be emblematic thanks to the total immersion it offers within the city, but also in the diversity of the routes.
