Kilimanjaro Marathon

In Moshi, at the foot of Kilimanjaro, the Kilimanjaro Marathon is run with the mountain’s snow-capped summit as a backdrop. The course leaves the town to pass through the surrounding villages and farmland, amid banana and coffee plantations. After a fairly fast opening section, the route gradually reaches the foothills of Kilimanjaro before descending back towards Moshi.
Local residents gather along the roads to cheer on the runners, giving the event a distinctly local atmosphere. The race takes place on paved roads and remains at a relatively moderate altitude. A half marathon and a 5 km race complete the program.
