Few half marathons begin with such a spectacular crossing: the race starts on the 25 de Abril Bridge, suspended high above the Tagus, with the white city and the river stretching as far as the eye can see. Runners then make their way to the waterfront, follow the water and finish in Belém, at the foot of the Jerónimos Monastery.
The flat, very fast course has made this race one of Europe’s most popular record-breaking courses, bringing together international elite athletes and tens of thousands of runners from all over the world. The waterfront is lined with enthusiastic crowds, and a 10K completes the programme for those who prefer a shorter distance. As spring arrives, Lisbon’s light and gentle air give this weekend the feel of a great celebration of running.
