Philadelphia Marathon

In the heart of Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Marathon drops runners right into the heart of American history. The pack sets off at the foot of the Philadelphia Museum of Art before heading into the historic district, winding between skyscrapers, the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.

On the main event distance, the challenge quickly veers away after the old town: heading for Fairmount Park and the peaceful banks of the Schuylkill River for a long out-and-back through the woods. The finish is earned at the end of Benjamin Franklin Parkway, with the final climb up the museum steps—immortalized by Rocky—in sight. Every autumn, the event brings together thousands of runners across the marathon, the half marathon and the 8K.
