Tour du Lac d’Aiguebelette celebrates its 40th edition

What better way to kick off June than with a run in an exceptional setting? On June 1, 2025, the Tour du Lac d’Aiguebelette will celebrate its 40th anniversary. The milestone edition is expected to draw 1,650 runners to the start line, with 17 kilometres around one of Savoie’s must-run landmarks on the schedule.

Aiguebelette, one of France’s finest natural lakes

You have to go back just over 40 years to find the first edition of the Tour du Lac d’Aiguebelette. The Morat family was behind the race, which went on to become a fixture on the national calendar. For 34 editions, the Tour du Lac d’Aiguebelette remained a family affair supported by various partners. The event was cancelled twice in succession, in 2019 and 2020. The race took a new direction in 2021 when the company “Un autre sport” took over the reins. Lake Aiguebelette is a true jewel in the Savoie region. Designated a Natura 2000 site and a regional nature reserve since 2015, Lake Aiguebelette is renowned for the quality of its aquatic environments and biodiversity. Forests and wetlands surround it, providing a habitat for numerous animal and plant species. Its emerald waters would not look out of place in the world’s most beautiful archipelagos. With an area of 5.45 km², Lake Aiguebelette is one of France’s largest natural lakes. Framed by the mountains of the Savoie foothills, the race setting is breathtaking.

A popular and competitive 40th edition in prospect

The race has regularly been a success, with more than 1,000 runners lining up for many editions. In 2009, nearly 1,300 runners set off from Novalaise for just over 17 kilometres. The course was tweaked in 2023 and now includes the “Chemin de la plage – Lépin-le-Lac”, measuring exactly 17 kilometres with 100 metres of elevation gain. In 2025, the Tour du Lac d’Aiguebelette will celebrate its 40th anniversary. As a birthday present, the organisers are introducing a new company challenge this year. It is a great opportunity for business leaders to bring their employees together around a shared goal, strengthen team spirit and showcase their company at a regional sporting event. In 2026, the weather should once again play its part and provide a spectacular backdrop for the 1,650 runners expected this Sunday. These passionate runners can look forward to a warm atmosphere at the start and finish, as well as all along the course thanks to the dedicated volunteers. Entertainment is planned throughout the day, with festive music setting the tone. The Tour du Lac d’Aiguebelette has been sold out for several weeks and will bring together more than 1,650 runners, 350 more than in 2025. Proof that the race is catching the eye of more and more runners every year.

Why this is an edition you cannot miss

The first reason? It is a classic with an unusual distance. No half marathon, no marathon. Just 17 kilometres around Lake Aiguebelette. A challenging and original race format. For its anniversary edition, the race will set a new participation record and has already been sold out for several weeks. That surge of interest should almost certainly bring some outstanding performances with it. The current course records will be well worth watching. In the men’s race, Corentin Pellicier completed the loop in 53:56 on the new course. Among the women, Anaïs Boucansaud holds the best time. The Evian Off Course runner won the 2023 edition in 1:07:37. This year’s participation record should make the race even more competitive and put the clock under serious pressure. The 2024 winners will be back to defend their titles. Corentin Pellicier should be at the heart of the men’s battle, while Mélie Subervie will be one to watch in the women’s race. This edition promises a fine spectacle.
