Copenhagen Half Marathon 2027 Switches to a Lottery for Entry

After selling out within hours in recent editions, the Copenhagen Half Marathon is changing its entry process. To secure a spot in 2027, runners will have to try their luck in the lottery.

The Copenhagen Half Marathon is opening a new chapter in its history. For the first time, all 45,000 available entries will be allocated through a lottery, replacing the traditional first-come, first-served system. The lottery for the 2027 event will be open from September 16 to 30, 2026. This entry system gives everyone an equal chance of being selected.

Runners who want to take on the race together will also be able to enter as a group of up to three people. The draw will be random, and the date of entry will have no bearing on the chances of being selected.

For the 2027 edition, securing a bib will not be about being the fastest but the luckiest, as the lottery will have the final say.

The first results will be announced from October 5. Runners selected in the draw will then have 48 hours to confirm their participation and purchase their bib for 795 Danish kroner (around €107), plus a 5% administration fee.

The change follows a sharp increase in demand for recent editions. In 2026, the regular half marathon will not take place because Copenhagen is hosting the World Road Running Championships on September 19 and 20.

In 2027, runners will return to the 21.1 km course through Copenhagen, which is renowned for its speed. The race is also part of the SuperHalfs, a series bringing together six major half marathons across Europe. By completing these races, participants can complete their SuperHalfs journey and earn a dedicated medal.

Finally, bibs will be issued in the runner’s name and cannot be transferred or resold. No official resale system will therefore be offered for this edition.

While runners wait to find out who will make it into this standout event, it is worth noting that the 2027 edition will take place on September 19.
