It was a runway show no one really had time to see… and that was exactly the point. During Paris Fashion Week, running app Strava and iconic store Distance shattered the traditional rules of the catwalk with an original concept: The CatRace. A runway show? Yes. Models? Not quite. Strides. Sweat. Speed. Welcome to the world of Distance, where fashion, sportswear and running meet.

An authentic sneaker-clad runway show, far from the glitter

In a fashion landscape where sportswear has been appearing on runways for years, it is hardly surprising to see running culture now playing with fashion’s codes. Running has become a culture in its own right. Practised every day by millions of people, it has grown into a genuine social movement. With The CatRace, sport is no longer just an aesthetic reference: it becomes the heart of the show. Here, the clothes are not displayed on models strolling slowly beneath camera flashes. They are worn by runners, charging at full speed around a relentless 1 km loop in the heart of Paris’s 2nd arrondissement. They finish their effort, in style, in front of a curious and impressed crowd, in a sprint of a runway show lasting less than a minute.

The result: a raw, honest performance in which every piece comes alive through what it was designed for: movement.

“Fashion Week was the perfect moment to put Distance’s values up against the fashion world, whose vision of sportswear is often a long way from sport itself.”

Guillaume Pontier, co-founder of Distance

Haute couture running

To bring this vision to life, stylist Stephy Galvani created silhouettes inspired by the runner’s wardrobe, built largely from reworked pieces by the famous three-stripe brand Adidas. Technical nylon, laces, technical polyester, straps, pouches… everything points to running, but with a pronounced fashion edge. Ten runners take to the runway out of breath and fully in motion, embodying a form of raw grace that contrasts with the often rigid poses of traditional fashion.

Putting sportswear into action during a runway show seemed obvious. That is how it is meant to live,” the designer explains. And this fleeting staging is enough to leave a lasting impression.

A bridge between sport, art and community

For Strava, the idea is far from random. At a time when major cultural and sporting events are taking centre stage, the brand is more determined than ever to connect creative worlds with the world of movement.

“For us, creating a bridge between the creative professions of fashion and the world of sport was an obvious choice, particularly during such a defining cultural moment in France and internationally.”

A show worth watching again… in slow motion

The show went by too quickly to take in the outfits properly. No stress. Watch the slow-motion replay on the YouTube channel of communications agency BETC, the team behind the project. A photo lookbook will also round out the project in the coming days.

When pace becomes style and a beautiful stride becomes a trend, running does more than take inspiration from fashion: it overtakes it.
