Saucony Endorphin Elite 3: the brand’s most refined racing shoe

Since 2023, the Endorphin Elite line has genuinely taken the American brand to another level. Incredibly dynamic, it quickly established itself as Saucony’s highest-performing range, even surpassing the iconic Endorphin Pro. Versions 1 and 2 were very well received by long-distance runners, thanks in particular to a carbon fiber plate and IncrediRUN foam — a high-performance cushioning compound known for its exceptional softness. So what does this new version bring to the table? With the Endorphin Elite 3, Saucony pulls it off by combining maximal cushioning with explosive responsiveness while also improving the model’s stability. The result delivers: the shoe’s energy return ranks among the best on the market. That said, you’ll need to be ready to spend a significant amount to get your hands on this new gem.

| What’s actually changed from the previous version

The Endorphin Elite story is one of relentless pursuit of high performance. The first version, released in early 2023, was firm, lively, and widely praised for its stability. The second went in the opposite direction: ultra-soft foam, a very plush fit, but weaker stability compared to rival models. The third iteration aims to combine the best of both worlds — targeting runners who want a shoe that is both incredibly soft and responsive, while also capable of delivering real stability at pace.

The most significant innovation comes from the IncrediRUN foam, a TPEE material that Saucony describes as the most performant cushioning it has ever developed. Its key characteristic: at easy paces, the foam compresses more and delivers very soft, bouncy cushioning, while at race pace it responds much faster and becomes noticeably more propulsive. This is rare enough to highlight — the shoe can literally change personality depending on effort intensity, a major advantage that makes it genuinely versatile across distances from 5K to marathon.

| A redesigned carbon plate for greater efficiency

The perforated carbon fiber plate is the other centerpiece of the design. Its new geometry was specifically engineered to improve high-speed stability and optimize transitions. The cutout pattern isn’t purely aesthetic: it allows stress to be distributed more progressively while maintaining high longitudinal stiffness — essential for converting each stride into propulsion.

The forefoot rocker (the upward curve at the front of the outsole) is very much present and noticeable through the gait cycle. It has been slightly modified to provide more stability through the midfoot. It still creates that natural rolling sensation toward the front, reducing the active work required from the calf and forefoot at the end of each stride — a genuine advantage for running economy over longer efforts.

The IncrediRUN foam and carbon plate combination delivers a generous stack: 39.5mm at the heel and 31.5mm at the forefoot, for an 8mm drop. A height that places the shoe at the top end of competition cushioning — and within the range approved by World Athletics.

“The Endorphin Elite 3 is our most efficient racing shoe to date. We redesigned the midsole geometry based on direct runner feedback to maintain the exceptional performance of the Elite 2 but to add more midfoot stability. Powered by the explosive energy return of IncrediRUN foam and a new slotted carbon fiber plate, the Endorphin Elite 3 creates a smooth and propulsive ride to help runners feel even faster on race day.”

| A lightweight upper, race-day comfort, no compromise

The upper received special attention. Saucony opted for a lightweight, breathable engineered mesh designed for competition: secure hold, no pressure points, and a generous toe box with a slightly squared shape that lets the toes splay naturally on impact. A detail that matters on longer distances.

Another distinctive feature: the absence of a rigid heel counter. This makes the shoe one of the few carbon supershoes suited to runners with Achilles tendon or heel sensitivities. Rear-foot hold is provided entirely by internal padding and lacing, with no friction zones.

The PWRTRAC outsole rounds out the package, delivering reliable grip on both dry and wet road surfaces, with enough durability to carry the shoe well into several hundred kilometers.

| The Saucony lineup

To understand where the Endorphin Elite 3 sits within the Saucony range, here’s a quick overview of the brand’s key models, from daily training to race day.

Triumph 24: The go-to daily trainer — generous cushioning, comfort-first, built for logging easy miles.
Endorphin Speed 5: A nylon-plated trainer built for quality sessions: more dynamic, the ideal companion for threshold workouts and uptempo runs, without the rigidity of a carbon plate. Can also serve as a daily trainer.
Endorphin Azura: The Swiss Army knife of the Saucony rotation. A plateless daily trainer with a pronounced rocker and generous stack. Dynamic yet firm, it handles everything from long runs to threshold sessions. The perfect shoe to pack in your kit bag.
Endorphin Pro 5: The brand’s competition benchmark — carbon plate, racing profile, light and ultra-dynamic, suited to a wide range of runners from 5K to marathon.
Endorphin Elite 3: The most refined version. The top of the pyramid. Reserved for those chasing ultimate performance. Lightweight, dynamic, stable — its cushioning ranks among the most responsive on the market.

With the Endorphin Elite 3, Saucony delivers its most accomplished racing shoe to date. The combination of IncrediRUN foam, a redesigned carbon plate, and an upper finally worthy of the shoe’s ambitions makes it one of the most anticipated supershoes of the year. It may not be the lightest option, but it is arguably one of the most dynamic. For runners chasing that trampoline sensation and a genuine “wow” moment from the first stride, this is the one. The only catch — and it’s not a small one — is the price. At $320, it is simply one of the most expensive shoes on the market, surpassing even the Nike Alphafly 3. While it may well justify that premium, it’s hard to imagine the running community celebrating the price tag.

The Saucony Endorphin Elite 3 has been available since June 1, 2026, priced at $320 on saucony.com.
