What better way to end 2025 in style than with a race? The Cursa dels Nassos, held every December 31 in Barcelona, delighted participants with 5 km and 10 km races through the streets of the Catalan capital. Both festive and competitive, the event was once again a great success, bringing together 13,000 passionate runners.

The Cursa dels Nassos or “Saint Sylvester Nose Race,” is a true year-end tradition in Barcelona. The event marks the beginning of New Year’s celebrations. It is known for its popular appeal while also bringing together the international elite of athletics. All of this takes place in a very festive atmosphere with large crowds of spectators, not to mention the ideal weather conditions at this time of year.

| A high-level 5 km

The Catalan event began with the international 5 km reserved for elite athletes. This very fast 5 km takes place on wide roads and runs through the Poblenou district. It is one of the most popular 5 km races in the world, as shown by the numerous records set there, which confirms the prestigious nature of the event.

An outstanding race was won by Portuguese athlete José Carlos Pinto in 13:10, followed by Norwegian runner Magnus Tuv Myhre in 13:13 and Spanish athlete Thierry Ndikumwenayo Ndayikunda in 13:22. The French contingent also performed impressively, with several strong results, including Anas Lagtiy-Chaoudar. The eleventh-best French performer in history and fourth in the race, he claimed the French U23 record in 13:33.

A result that inspired rising star Aloïs Abraham, who set the European U18 record as well as the French U18 and U20 records in 13:38. This brilliant performance capped an exceptional year for the young athlete, who was selected three times for French youth national teams in 2025. Also worth noting are the performances of Gaor Drouin Viallard, Joshua Abraham, and Maël Gouyette, all clocking 13:37, as well as Antoine Puydebois, still in the U23 category, in 13:46.

| French women shine in force

On the women’s side, Ethiopian runner Likina Amebaw Amebaw left no chance to her rivals, finishing in 14:23. French miler Agathe Guillemot took second place in 15:04, which is the third-fastest French performance of all time over the distance. The athlete from Brittany moved closer to the benchmark set by 2024 Olympic triathlon champion Cassandre Beaugrand, now only nine seconds away. This result should give confidence to an athlete who is looking ahead to the mixed relay at the World Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida, on January 10.

The podium was completed by British athlete Jemma Reekie (15:21), silver medalist in the 800 m at the 2024 World Indoor Championships in Glasgow. Javote Guéret from Bordeaux, author of an excellent season that included third place at the French Elite Championships over 5,000 m last summer, finished seventh in 15:39.

| A landmark and hugely popular 10 km

After the clash of the international elite over the 5 km, 13,000 runners of all levels set off in the emblematic and festive 10 km. Abdessamad Oukhelfen claimed victory in 27:59, ahead of Ismail Atriki Mehrak and Annasse Mahboub, both clocked at 29:14. In the women’s race, Marta Galimany Guasch was the fastest in 31:33. Doua Ouboukir El Oihabi followed in 32:40, just after having also run the 5 km in 15:37 (6th).
