Aix-les-Bains 10K delivers a record-breaking edition

Aix-les-Bains and the shores of Lac du Bourget set the stage for a record-breaking 12th edition of the Aix-les-Bains 10K. At 9:45 a.m. on March 23, 2025, 5,000 runners surged away from the lakeside esplanade for 10 kilometers of pure racing joy. After smashing its entry record at the start of the year, the event saw two more records fall as the day’s winners rewrote the men’s and women’s course bests.

A flood of records on a lightning-fast course

The sun finally broke through as 5,000 runners lined up for the 12th edition of the Aix-les-Bains 10K. A light breeze, spring-like temperatures and blue skies: perfect conditions for anyone chasing a record.

In the men’s race, Kenyan Brian Kipchumba upset the predictions. After quickly dropping his fellow frontrunners, he ran clear and crossed the line in 28:53, wiping Dieudonné Nsengiyumva’s previous course record of 29:27 from the books. Léonard Bor (29:31) and Said Kaddour (29:32) completed the podium with blazing times. Every year brings a different story. In 2025, the depth of the field got a serious boost, with 11 runners under 29 minutes and 140 under 33. Victor Moreau, last year’s winner in 29:44, finished just outside the top 10, taking 11th in 29:54.

In the women’s race, Viviane Cheruiyot lived up to her billing as favorite. The Kenyan athlete won in 31:55, smashing the course record held by Ruth Karanja (32:31).

European qualifying standards for Célia Tabet and Aude Clavier

The French women did not disappoint. Entering at the last minute after a disrupted trip to Lille the previous weekend, Célia Tabet and Aude Clavier arrived in Aix-les-Bains ready to make their mark. Chasing the qualifying standard for the European Running Championships in Brussels, this was their final chance to impress and put themselves in contention for selection. The two road-racing regulars seized the opportunity, finishing second (32:23) and third (32:24) respectively, both under 32:30, the performance standard required to dream of a trip to Belgium on April 12 and 13.

The race’s top five made for impressive reading, with international runners Mélanie Allier (32:47) and Émilie Girard (32:56) taking fourth and fifth. Proof that the organizer’s new, completely flat course is a speedster’s dream.

A wild atmosphere in a dream setting

The event delivered a genuine sporting adventure for the 5,000 runners, as well as for the crowds lining the course. The late-arriving sunshine made the conditions perfect. Runners enjoyed a dream setting between the lake and the mountains. While the performances impressed the several hundred spectators gathered along the roads, the race was above all a celebration of pushing beyond your limits and pure passion. The festive atmosphere and constant encouragement helped 4,646 runners earn their finisher medals. Everyone could then recharge in the warm atmosphere of the race village and enjoy a successful day for the organizers.
