Tour du Lac d’Aiguebelette: Corentin Pellicier and Magalie Aureille smash course records

The Tour du Lac d’Aiguebelette delivered once again. Opening a packed month of June racing, the Savoy event produced two outstanding performances. Corentin Pellicier retained his title with a course-record victory, while Magalie Aureille dominated the women’s race and set a new record of her own. A total of 1,458 runners lined up for the 40th edition under blazing sunshine and intense heat.

A milestone edition in soaring temperatures

Under a burst of confetti and a blazing sun, 1,458 runners set off around Lac d’Aiguebelette. The setting was spectacular, with the lake and mountains of Savoie providing the backdrop, but the challenge was all about covering 17 kilometers to complete the loop. Renowned as one of France’s most beautiful natural lakes, Lac d’Aiguebelette and its emerald waters took center stage throughout the weekend. The party was already a success before the first finishers arrived, thanks to a new participation record. The runners pushed themselves hard too, with only three failing to complete the race. To celebrate the event’s 40th anniversary, the organizers went all out: live music, welcoming volunteers, pacers to help runners stay on pace, generous aid stations... all beneath a brilliant sun. A commemorative race shirt was designed especially for the anniversary. Among the weekend’s memorable moments was the performance of the event’s oldest competitor, 85-year-old Maurice, who finished the Tour du Lac d’Aiguebelette in 1:53:58. The celebrations continued in the finish area, with a post-race meal followed by a swim in the lake for recovery. Not a bad way to wrap up the long Ascension weekend.

Pellicier and Aureille set the clock alight

It was already hot on the start line, but the temperature rose sharply when the gun went. While not all 1,450 runners were there to win, some had clearly not come to admire the scenery. Among them were the day’s favorites, Corentin Pellicier, the defending champion and course-record holder, and Guillaume Adam, the 2022 and 2023 winner. The pair fought out a gripping battle, eventually won by the former. Midway through the race, Pellicier made a decisive move, extending his lead before crossing the finish line first. Charging at full speed, he lowered his own course record to 53:27 and retained his crown in Savoie. Guillaume Adam finished second in 54:55, while Pierre Barbet completed the podium in 55:42.

In the women’s race, Magalie Aureille was never seriously threatened in the fight for victory. Making it look remarkably easy, she even placed in the overall top 10. Seventh in a sensational 58:55, she obliterated the previous course record. Rosalie Georges took an impressive second place in 1:05:17, also beating the old course record. Christine Selman finished third in 1:08:18. The 40th edition produced impressive depth, with nine runners breaking the one-hour mark.
