1 – A unique setting between the sea and heritage

For around 15 years now, the seaside event has tackled environmental issues head-on. “We are an event with a national profile, and we wanted to set an example,” says Nicolas Mauny, organiser of the Marathon Serge-Vigot La Rochelle. Waste management, the removal of plastic bottles, more responsible water use, and the promotion of carpooling and sustainable transport all form part of the race’s commitments.

4 – A perfect date in the racing calendar

Like its counterpart in Nice, the Marathon La Rochelle Serge Vigot takes place in November. For athletes, that means easing into their training plans after the summer and starting their preparation in mild temperatures. Once race day is over, December and its festive celebrations can be enjoyed to the fullest, without feeling guilty about skipping a run.

5 – A fast course built for performance

The Marathon La Rochelle Serge Vigot is France’s second-fastest marathon, behind Paris. On the Atlantic coast, the sea air seems to provide an extra boost for record attempts. In 2024, no fewer than 75 athletes finished under 2:45, 356 under 3:00, 1,575 under 3:30 and 3,101 under 4:00.
