The 2025 Berlin Marathon takes place on Sunday, September 21. One of the biggest events on the marathon calendar, it is renowned as the fastest marathon in the world. With its flat, fast course, the German capital has seen no fewer than 13 world records fall, and the 2025 edition promises another high-level spectacle, with Sabastian Sawe, Milkesa Mengesha, Rosemary Wanjiru and plenty of other stars on the starting line.

What time does the race start?

➜ The elite race and the first waves of amateur runners start at 9:15 a.m.
➜ Three more waves will follow at 9:45 a.m., 10:10 a.m. and 10:40 a.m.

Which channel is showing the race?

Good news for running fans: the 2025 Berlin Marathon will be shown live and free-to-air on L’Équipe (channel 21 on French DTT). Coverage begins a few minutes before the race starts at 9:15 a.m.

A race you won’t want to miss

The 51st edition is shaping up to be electric. Kenyan Sabastian Sawe (2:02:05) is the headline name attracting all the attention. Already tipped as the successor to the late Kelvin Kiptum, he could be targeting a sensational time, perhaps even a run at the world record. Standing in his way, 2024 champion Milkesa Mengesha and around ten other men with sub-2:05 credentials promise an epic battle. In the women’s race, Kenyan Rosemary Wanjiru (2:16:14) and Ethiopia’s Mestawut Fikir are the leading favorites. In short, the fastest marathon in the world could make history once again.
