Registration: first come, first served — and very quickly

There is no lottery in Barcelona: entries are allocated in the order registrations are received, until the race sells out. And you need to be ready.

For the 2027 edition, scheduled for Sunday, February 14, registration opened on May 14, 2026, at 11:00 AM through the official race website. The result: 25,000 entries were sold on the first day, and the event completely sold out in just one week.

Even for a race known for breaking records, that was unprecedented. After welcoming 36,000 participants in 2026, the organizers were targeting the symbolic milestone of 40,000 runners. Mission accomplished… in only seven days. An impressive achievement that reflects the enormous popularity of the event.

For the 2028 edition, there is only one real piece of advice: follow the race on social media and be ready as soon as the registration date is announced. At this pace, every minute counts.

Runners should also keep an eye on any potential changes to the registration process in the future. Similar races such as Valencia and Copenhagen have recently introduced lotteries for their events.

Registration and entry fees

Like the Barcelona Marathon, the half marathon uses a tiered pricing system based on the order in which runners register. The good news is that entry fees remain highly accessible:

➜ Entries 1 to 1,000: €36
➜ Entries 1,001 to 10,000: €40
➜ Entries 10,001 to 40,000: €50

Registration is available through the organizer’s official website and on Finishers.com.

Registration is only confirmed once payment has been completed. Runners can also purchase a refund guarantee, available only at the time of registration, which allows them to recover 100% of the entry fee upon request until mid-January 2027.

It is an additional cost, but considering the affordable price of the bib, it may be worth playing it safe.

There is also a nice bonus for the most committed runners: half marathon participants receive a €6 discount on entry to the Barcelona Marathon, held one month later. Another reason to turn Catalonia into the perfect destination for chasing spring personal bests.

Race sold out? Bib transfer as a final opportunity

Did you arrive too late? All hope is not lost. A bib transfer may be the solution.

In the weeks leading up to the race, many runners are forced to withdraw from their goal, often because of an injury suffered during training, and eventually put their bib back on the market.

One runner’s misfortune can become another runner’s opportunity… and this can be a golden chance for the hundreds of athletes still searching for the precious entry.

The entire process takes place through the organizer’s exchange platform in the “Manage registration” section.

Two dates are important:
➜ After January 12, 2027, the bib will no longer be personalized.
➜ From January 30, no further changes of participant will be accepted.

However, unofficial arrangements should be avoided. Running with someone else’s bib without using the official transfer procedure may result in the timing chip being deactivated and a ban from registering for the next four editions.

For safety and ranking purposes, the organizers take this rule very seriously.

Starting corrals: the race begins here

The race starts at 8:30 AM and is organized into color-coded starting corrals selected during registration.

Each runner may only enter the corral corresponding to their bib. Changes are possible until January 12, 2027, provided official proof of performance is submitted.

The fastest athletes may apply for access to the sub-elite corral. To qualify, runners must have achieved one of the following performances during the previous two years in officially certified races:

Men:
➜ Under 30:00 for 10K
➜ Under 1:05 for the half marathon
➜ Under 2:15 for the marathon

Women:
➜ Under 35:00 for 10K
➜ Under 1:15 for the half marathon
➜ Under 2:35 for the marathon

Applications must be submitted to the organizers by email.
