How to register for the Doha Marathon

Marathon
20/02/2026 14:15

Running in Doha isn’t just about ticking an exotic destination off a map. It means taking part in a unique, ultra-fast race that’s becoming increasingly popular worldwide. It also means waking up very early to escape the heat of the Persian Gulf. With its futuristic skyline and impressive skyscrapers, the Doha Marathon by Ooredoo has become, in just a few years, the largest running event in Qatar, bringing together nearly 20,000 runners from more than 160 nationalities. It’s a blend of modernity, Arabian traditions, and a clear ambition to grow the race on the international stage.

How do you register for the Doha Marathon? Here’s everything you need to know.

| An event with international reach

The Doha Marathon is no longer just a 42.195 km race. It’s a full weekend of running events designed to be inclusive and accessible. A total of five races are offered:
Marathon (42.195 km)
Half marathon (21.1 km)
10 km
5 km
Kids Fun Run

The 2026 edition confirmed the race’s rapid growth, with nearly 20,000 participants and a World Athletics Gold Label for the third consecutive year—a sign of the event’s quality. This is no longer a small regional race. Doha is starting to count on the international marathon calendar. The 2026 elite field was particularly strong, featuring Olympic champion Tamirat Tola, who set a new course record of 2:05:40.

To avoid the heat and optimize racing conditions, the marathon starts at 6:00 a.m. Other races follow the same logic, with staggered start times beginning at dawn. The organization is meticulous, with start corrals based on pace (A, B, C, D) to ensure smooth race flow. Everything is designed to help runners perform—but also to enjoy the experience.

| How to get a bib for the Doha Marathon

Registration is completed online through the official race website. The principle is simple: first come, first served. Early Bird registration usually opens six months before the race. And like many fast-growing events, bibs sell out quickly. For the latest edition, 75% of marathon entries were already gone by November 14.

Good news if you’re running with friends:
25% discount for groups of four runners or more

Before registering, keep in mind:
No refunds once registered
No bib transfers to another runner
Distance cannot be changed after confirmation
In case of force majeure cancellation, the entry is automatically transferred if the race is rescheduled

Minimum age requirements:
10 years old for the 5 km
14 years old for the 10 km
16 years old for the half marathon and marathon

In other words, be sure of your choice before confirming your registration.

| How much does a bib cost?

Early Bird prices announced for 2026 were:
Marathon: 245 QAR
Half-marathon: 210 QAR
10 km: 165 QAR
5 km: 130 QAR
Kids Run: 80 QAR

Prices increase after the Early Bird period ends on October 31. As usual with major races, the later you register, the more expensive it becomes. A nice extra: runners can also purchase optional medal engraving online, with their name and official finishing time—a small detail that feels special once you’re back home.

| What to expect on race day

The course is very flat. It runs along the Corniche, crosses West Bay, passes the Museum of Islamic Art, and offers wide views of the Persian Gulf. The start and finish are located near the Marathon Village, where you’ll find:
bag drop facilities
medical zones
regular aid stations
cultural entertainment and concerts

It’s a fast race—but be careful: even at 6:00 a.m., humidity can be surprising. Managing your pace is almost as important as your fitness.

Another important logistical detail: bibs are not distributed on race day. They must be collected at Hotel Park in the days before the race during designated pickup times.
