Seville Marathon 2025: a lightning-fast course through a legendary city

The Seville Marathon draws runners from across the field, from elite athletes to dedicated amateurs. Its fast course, mild weather and stunning setting through the beautiful city of Sevilla make it a standout race. On Sunday, February 23, runners will line up beneath the starting arch on the Paseo de las Delicias.

A course built for fast times

The organisers describe it as “the flattest course in Europe”. There is barely more than 60 metres of elevation gain across the full distance. At sea level, sheltered from the wind and set against the region’s generally mild weather, the course has all the ingredients for a fast marathon. The race starts on the Paseo de las Delicias, in the heart of María Luisa Park. After 42.195 kilometres through the city and along both banks of the Guadalquivir, runners return to cross the finish line at the same spot where they started earlier in the day.

A marathon with Seville as its backdrop

The route also takes in the city’s most iconic landmarks:

Plaza de España: The very symbol of Seville. This magnificent square features a semicircular palace, tiled alcoves dedicated to each Spanish province, a fountain and a small canal running through it.
Torre del Oro: This former defensive tower once helped block attacks from the river. Although it has lost some of its golden colour, it remains a must-see, surrounded by palm trees.
La Giralda: The former minaret of the city’s great mosque, this tower rises to almost 100 metres and can serve as a clear visual reference for runners at several points along the course.
María Luisa Park: This park is every bit as beautiful as it is expansive, with trees and flowers in abundance. Its broad avenues offer views of the grounds’ gardens, paths, wide lawns, fountains and pools.
La Maestranza: The Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza is an ochre, red and white bullring. A true temple of bullfighting, it still occasionally hosts corridas.

Ideal weather conditions

Seville enjoys a mild continental climate throughout the year. Race Sunday should follow the pattern, with sunny skies, no wind and temperatures ranging from 10 to 17°C over the course of the morning.

A 2025 World Athletics Elite Label Road Race

The Seville Marathon is governed by World Athletics, the circuit bringing together the world’s leading track and road competitions, including marathon races. For race organisers, earning the label is a significant achievement. It also means that World Athletics world records can be set on the course.

A strong French presence

France will be strongly represented at the 2025 edition, with four elite athletes on the start line: Félix Bour, Emmanuel Roudolff-Levisse, Mélody Julien and Manon Trapp. They arrive with serious ambitions, targeting personal and national records.

As they say in Seville this year: “Let the show begin.”
