Running solo or in a group? It’s a question that divides runners. We’ve tried to understand the motivations and preferences of each, considering the pros and cons.

Motivations for running alone

  • Connecting with oneself: enjoy solitude to reconnect with yourself.
  • Clearing your mind: mentally clear your mind without distractions.
  • Proving capability: even alone, you can prove you’re capable.
  •  Run whenever you want: run at the time and duration you prefer.
  • No external constraints: be free from external obligations.
  • Fully enjoy the environment: the scenery and tranquility are yours to relish.
  • Run without pressure: no goals, no pressure, it’s at your pace.
  • Strengthen mental resilience: train your mind and spirit to push forward.
  • Enjoy silence and tranquility: it’s just you and your thoughts.

Motivations for group running

  • Surround yourself with others: avoid feeling lonely.
  • Motivation from the group: benefit from group energy.
  • Enjoy social interaction: what better than a chatty run?
  •  Keep a committed pace: if everyone goes, so do you.
  •  Benefit from collective support: feeling down? No worries, you’re not alone.
  • Share challenges and goals: nothing better than mutual motivation.
  • Feel secure: in a group, nothing can happen.
  • Build social connections: a perfect chance to meet people.
  • Structured environment: in a club, there’s always a framework.
  • Push your limits: the group’s energy helps you forget additional miles.

Running alone or with others:  advantages and disadvantages

Running alone or with others: ✔ advantages and ✘ disadvantages

Motivations can vary; they depend on the personality and desires of runners. Some prefer running alone, others only in groups. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. It’s important to listen to your desires; the main thing is to run and enjoy it.

One thing is certain, all runners will agree. With a race bib on, the collective energy is indescribable, it carries you and boosts you. It’s not easy to choose sides but… fortunately, you don’t have to pick just one.
