Over the past few years, a new category of shoes has taken over the roads: super trainers. These highly responsive, lightweight models can do it all: rack up the miles, handle tempo work, power through your best long runs, and all without necessarily reaching for a carbon-plated shoe. Runners love highly cushioned footwear, and until now one major player had been missing from the category: adidas. That changes with the Hyperboost Edge, the German brand’s new super trainer. An ambitious, futuristic-looking shoe that combines maximum cushioning, high energy return and low weight in a model designed for everyday training. In other words, a new technological gem for committed runners and fans of high-performance footwear. After the EVO SL’s breakout success last year, this latest addition points to another big year for adidas in running.

The super trainer market is exploding

If the Hyperboost Edge is attracting so much attention, it is because it arrives at exactly the right moment. Super trainers have become one of the most popular categories in running today. The concept is simple: offer a shoe that can do it all, soaking up plenty of miles while delivering comfort and, above all, a lively underfoot feel that comes close to that of race-day models.

These shoes typically feature brands’ best foams and unusually high stack heights, well beyond the limits set by World Athletics. Brands have found the right formula for creating highly versatile shoes that offer more forgiveness and durability than carbon-plated racers. After the success of the Adizero EVO SL last year, adidas is continuing its push into performance running. With the Hyperboost Edge, the brand sharpens its lineup: this was the one model missing from an already well-stocked rotation.

Huge cushioning and an ultra-responsive Hyperboost Pro foam

At the heart of the shoe is an entirely new technology: Hyperboost Pro. This foam was designed to deliver:
✔ Maximum cushioning
✔ High energy return
✔ A lightweight feel

With 45 mm of cushioning at the heel and a 6 mm drop, the Hyperboost Edge delivers a substantial but highly responsive platform, perfectly suited to long efforts and high-mileage weeks.

Despite its battleship-like feel underfoot, the shoe weighs 255 g, which is remarkable for something this protective. The magic comes from a foam developed through extensive material testing and a study conducted with the University of Cologne involving 60 runners:
✔ 73% of runners preferred its energy return
✔ 77% rated its cushioning as more comfortable
✔ More than half preferred the overall running experience

In other words, the Hyperboost Edge already looks like the foundation of a new technological platform for adidas.

We wanted to bring something truly transformative to the market. Hyperboost Edge is where the “Power of Three” comes to life: cushioning, energy and lightness working together in harmony. We created a shoe that feels light on the foot, responsive with every stride and cushioned on impact. This is just the beginning of what Hyperboost Pro technology can unlock across our performance range.

Who is the adidas Hyperboost Edge for?

Unlike carbon-plated racing models, the Hyperboost Edge was designed without a plate. The goal is to offer a lively option without the rigidity of a plate in the midsole. The foam works naturally with the runner’s stride, delivering smooth propulsion that adapts to each individual. The aim is clear: a dynamic but forgiving, accessible shoe capable of supporting runners through every type of training session.

That gives it a broad target audience:
➜ Beginner runners
➜ Regular joggers
➜ Runners training several times a week
➜ Runners looking for comfort and responsiveness without carbon-plated rigidity

This is not a pure racing shoe, but a versatile super trainer designed for the majority of runners. That said, some recreational runners may be tempted to race in it, thanks to its responsiveness, comfort and low weight.

A lightweight build focused on performance

To complement the new foam, adidas also reworked the shoe’s entire construction.

PRIMEWEAVE upper
The PRIMEWEAVE upper offers breathability, flexibility and a natural hold around the foot. The mesh is lightweight and moves easily with the foot, providing instant comfort without pressure points. Integrated heel pods also deliver targeted cushioning and improved stability on impact.

LIGHTTRAXION outsole
Inspired by Adizero racing shoes, the LIGHTTRAXION outsole provides reliable grip on the road while keeping weight down. It retains the brand’s performance DNA while remaining suited to everyday training.

A bold aesthetic

The shoe also stands apart from the competition through its styling. The Hyperboost Edge introduces a new visual identity for the three-stripe brand. Its oversized midsole puts the Hyperboost Pro technology front and center, making it the shoe’s true engine. For the first time on an adidas running shoe, the three stripes appear directly on the midsole, highlighting the technology and creating an instantly recognizable silhouette.

The design deliberately blends performance running, lifestyle and basketball footwear, meaning the shoe can also be worn away from a run by those with a bolder sense of style. With its striking white-and-red colorway, this is clearly a one-of-a-kind model in the market and instantly recognizable.

Zizou gave us a preview

The Hyperboost Edge has not even launched yet, and it is already making headlines. The model was recently spotted on the feet of Zinedine Zidane at an event organized by the brand, fueling plenty of curiosity around the new super trainer. Given the category’s current popularity, there is every chance the Hyperboost Edge will quickly become one of the most sought-after models around.

The key takeaways

With the Hyperboost Edge, adidas ticks every box for a modern super trainer:
✔ Ultra-responsive foam
✔ Maximum cushioning
✔ Low weight
✔ Training versatility

It is a shoe designed for long runs, tempo sessions and everyday easy miles. Getting a pair will still require a bit of a splurge. At €200, it sits above classic daily trainers but well below a comparable shoe such as the Asics Superblast 3 (€220). The other standout is its unique, futuristic design. The combination of pure white and vivid red brings a basketball shoe to mind. You will either love it or hate it, but one thing is certain: the three-stripe brand is going to make plenty of noise this year.

It was only a matter of time before adidas unveiled its super trainer. With the Hyperboost Edge, the three-stripe brand delivers an ambitious, futuristic shoe with a clear performance focus. A new technological gem for runners who like to rack up the miles and pick up the pace when needed. Judging by the hype already surrounding the model, a new running banger has arrived.
