Brooks is making a serious statement with the launch of its all-new Hyperion Elite 5. Positioned as the direct evolution of the highly capable Hyperion Elite 4 PB, this carbon-plated racer promises to be faster, lighter and more explosive. Built for marathons and half marathons, as well as 5K and 10K races, it represents the American brand’s top-tier competition shoe.

Built for performance

The formula stays true to what made the range successful: a 100% PEBA DNA GOLD midsole infused with nitrogen and described by Brooks as its most responsive foam yet. The material delivers maximum energy return while reducing muscular impact, helping runners hold fast paces for longer and recover more effectively. Anthony Frontera, the French elite athlete sponsored by the brand, is already a fan: “The new foam helps me recover faster after hard sessions. It reduces muscular impact, workout after workout. DNA GOLD technology really changes the game.”

The major update also lies in the shoe’s geometry and design: a redesigned rocker, innovative cutouts in the midsole and an updated upper that strips away every unnecessary gram. The result is a shoe weighing just 198 grams (10 grams less than its predecessor), making it one of the lightest on the market. It keeps the runner closely connected to the ground for a smoother, more explosive stride. Because the foam compresses and rebounds more, the shoe delivers an impressive energy return, a key advantage for anyone chasing a faster time.

To push the pace even further, a SpeedVault+ carbon plate sits in the midsole, sandwiched between two layers of DNA Gold foam. Made from Arris carbon fiber, the plate runs the full length of the shoe, providing the stiffness needed for a more dynamic stride and stronger propulsion.

Lightweight comfort, no compromises

With 40 mm of heel stack height (the limit set by World Athletics) and an 8 mm drop, the Hyperion Elite 5 stays within the regulations while offering experienced runners a well-judged balance of cushioning and responsiveness. The addition of more DNA GOLD foam, made possible by a thinner outsole, boosts both response and cushioning, creating a strong balance between speed and comfort.

For breathability and comfort, Brooks has developed a lighter upper that delivers a highly comfortable fit. With its TPU construction and minimalist tongue, the foot and the shoe feel like one.

Another major change is that Brooks expanded its testing pool. The Hyperion Elite 5 is not reserved for elite athletes. Far from it. It was also designed around a wide range of runners with different stride patterns. Heel strikers should find plenty of support and stability in this model, opening the door to a broader audience looking for a versatile, approachable carbon-plated shoe that is still built to race.

A serious contender among supershoes

At €275, the Hyperion Elite 5 sits firmly in the premium supershoe category. But with its low weight, impressive energy return and highly secure fit, it looks like a serious option for race day. Faster, more versatile and more approachable in its ride than some rival models, it is already shaping up as one of 2025’s standout racers.

The Hyperion Elite 5 is the ideal shoe for your fastest paces. Its DNA GOLD foam midsole delivers excellent energy return
while reducing muscular fatigue. That balance of speed and comfort
puts the Hyperion Elite 5 among the best options in its category.
