Hoka Mach X 3: the running shoe built for speed
Hoka returns with its sharpest Mach X yet. The third-generation Mach X 3 strikes an impressive balance between propulsion, comfort and versatility. With its flashy design, the new model has been available since September 1. It is aimed at runners looking for one shoe that can handle everything from speed sessions to long runs. This latest version is a success, delivering outstanding comfort that should win over plenty of runners.
The Mach X line evolves toward speed
After two successful versions, this third iteration still relies on a Pebax® plate embedded in the midsole to deliver a responsive ride. As seen on the Rocket X 3, the plate features side wings that provide extra support through the foot strike and transition. It is paired with two layers of more resilient PEBA foam, adding bounce and protecting the muscles. Thanks to MetaRocker technology, the shoe’s geometry remains similar to the previous model, designed to move you forward and make your stride feel smoother. Hoka is targeting runners who want a shoe that can perform in training and on race day, without compromising comfort.
Improved comfort and support
The biggest updates to the Mach X 3 are its lightweight, breathable warp-knit upper and reinforced collar, which provide a secure fit. The tongue has also been redesigned and is now softer, with more comfortable foam. The previous model performed well, but many runners criticized its lack of heel support and its ultrathin upper, which was not comfortable enough for everyday use. Hoka has addressed both issues here, delivering a more comfortable shoe with a secure heel and a far more accommodating upper. The result is a light, comfortable ride, the ideal combination for a successful speed session.
Grip comes from a compression-molded rubber outsole. Placed under the heel and forefoot, the rubber protects the foam and delivers better durability than you would typically expect from this type of shoe.
Who is it for?
The Mach X 3 is a true Swiss Army knife in Hoka’s rotation. It can handle your everyday easy runs, while also serving as an ideal partner for your fastest speed sessions. It stays true to Hoka’s DNA: approachable performance and comfort are both firmly in place.
