Julbo Intensity review: chasing perfect vision

Putting the Julbo Intensity through its paces

As someone used to wearing sunglasses from the Jura-based brand, I was still looking for the ideal model for my needs. The Julbo Intensity ticks almost every box for me. Even before taking it out on the road, I was immediately impressed by the fit, which is secure at both the temples and the nose. The panoramic lens also provides a very wide field of vision. The Watt’Ever edition adds an original look, with an electric, modern and energetic tint.

➜ Endurance run test

For my first outdoor test, I headed out for just under an hour in the late afternoon. The weight of this model is a real advantage. At just 19 grams for the complete frame, it is barely noticeable and quickly fades from awareness. The Reactiv 1-3 lens significantly cuts the amount of light passing through it. After half an hour, the sun went down and the lens naturally lightened, maintaining excellent visibility even in low light. The first test was a convincing one.

➜ Tempo session on the road

For the second full-scale test, I wore my Julbo Intensity during a tempo session. With previous models, I often had fogging on the lenses during hard workouts, probably because of sweat. This time, unexpectedly, visibility remained perfect throughout the session. The complete absence of fogging, helped by the ventilation around the lenses, was particularly welcome. The fit also stayed excellent as the pace increased. I sometimes take them off and rest them on top of my head for a few minutes while running, and they stay firmly in place. Another box ticked during a tempo session.

➜ Trail session in the rain

To round out the field test, I wanted to try the sunglasses on a trail run, ideally in the rain. I am one of those runners who prefers to wear sunglasses even when it rains, because I am sensitive to water getting in my eyes. I also wanted to see how well they would stay put on harder descents in the mountains. Once again, there was nothing to report. I never had to push them back up my nose every five minutes. The frame’s lightness once again made it easy to forget I was wearing sunglasses. In the rain, the Reactiv 1-3 lenses did exactly what they needed to do.

✔ After putting them through these tests, it is difficult to find much to criticize. I was completely satisfied with how securely they sat on my nose, while the wide lens delivered an ideal panoramic view, particularly for mountain running. The Reactiv lenses performed well. In short, the Intensity strikes an excellent balance between lightness and performance.
