Kiprun has already made a name for itself with cutting-edge shoe technology. Now the Decathlon running brand is turning its attention to apparel with the launch of the Run Compress 900 RHEON. Developed in partnership with London-based engineers from RHEON LABS®, these next-generation running tights promise to raise the bar for performance-minded runners, on trails and roads alike.

Rheon™ technology: the future of running?

The project started with a simple ambition that was anything but simple to achieve. Kiprun noticed that many long-distance runners particularly enjoy wearing compression tights because they feel lighter and less restricted. The idea was to create an innovative pair of tights that could provide greater muscular support without limiting freedom of movement. To make it happen, the French brand turned to RHEON™ technology, a reactive polymer that adapts in real time to impact and changes in intensity. The result is dynamic support when it is needed, combined with full flexibility as the muscles relax.

Until now, we have mostly been used to seeing this kind of technology in running shoes. Now, apparel can help us run faster and longer too. Some runners may remain sceptical, but the laboratory testing speaks for itself: up to 19% less acceleration force on the quadriceps compared with running without tights, and 4.6% less than with the previous Kiprun model. In other words, improved muscular efficiency, helping runners stay fresher and more durable over the long haul.

This technological achievement is the result of several years of work and investment by RHEON Labs. The London-based company grew out of a project developed by NASA over nearly 15 years. It brings together engineers, designers and scientists to develop protective and high-performance equipment. Some of the biggest names in the running industry have already worked with RHEON Labs, whose influence extends well beyond the sports market.

Built for performance, and for the everyday realities of runners

These tights were designed with the realities of long-distance running in mind. Highly durable, they are made for trail running and ultra-distance racing, with a lighter summer version already in the works. Practical touches include a front pocket that can hold two 250 ml soft flasks, a secure rear pocket for a phone, and two side pockets for gels and energy bars. That means heading out for a run without having to carry a bulky hydration pack.

A more sustainable product

Kiprun has also worked to limit the product’s environmental impact. Although the tights do not yet contain recycled materials, they are made using solution-dyed fibres, coloured during production. This significantly reduces water and chemical consumption compared with traditional dyeing methods. It is a meaningful step in line with the sports industry’s ongoing efforts to become more sustainable.

A decisive year for Kiprun in 2025

Kiprun is going through a decisive year in 2025. After signing Jimmy Gressier at the start of the year, the brand has clearly stepped up its performance strategy. Present at all the major road and trail races, it is rolling out initiatives to get closer to runners and make its ambitions clear in the face of the market’s biggest players: breaking into the Top 5 in the coming years. Jimmy Gressier’s European 5K record (12:57) in Lille last February, set in the carbon-plated Kipstorm Lab, marked a major media turning point. With these new game-changing tights developed with RHEON LABS®, Kiprun is showing that its innovation is not limited to footwear. The brand intends to establish its expertise across every kind of terrain, while continuing to forge its own path.

With the Run Compress 900 RHEON tights, Kiprun is opening up a new avenue in running. Designed to combine muscular support, comfort and freedom of movement, this latest release is sure to appeal to the most demanding runners. More broadly, Kiprun is sending a clear message: the future of performance is no longer decided solely beneath our feet. This launch could well signal the emergence of a new market in running.
