Some carbon-plated shoes have helped define an era. Saucony’s Endorphin Pro is one of them. When super shoes began taking over the roads in 2019, the Endorphin Pro was already part of the first wave alongside models such as the Nike Vaporfly and Nike Alphafly Next%. A carbon plate, highly responsive foam and geometry built for speed laid the foundations for the modern racing shoe. Since then, the shoe has continued to evolve. With the new Endorphin Pro 5, launching this Monday, March 16, Saucony takes another step forward: delivering a super shoe that can shine on race day, while also handling fast sessions and demanding workouts.

A major evolution for the Endorphin family

The Endorphin Pro has changed considerably over the years:
✔ The early versions favored a smooth, rolling ride
✔ Version 3 was exceptionally bouncy
✔ Version 4 moved toward a more stable, higher-volume racer

The Endorphin Pro 5 continues that evolution, but with a different goal: creating a more aggressive and versatile shoe that can handle both fast workouts and racing. It’s a logical move when you consider that many runners were already using the Pro 4 as a fast-training shoe, saving the Saucony Endorphin Elite, the American brand’s other carbon-plated model, for their marathons.

Firmer, more explosive foam

Underfoot, Saucony has chosen a foam combination already well established in its performance range:
✔ PWRRUN PB as the base (PEBA)
✔ PWRRUN HG as the top layer underfoot (supercritical TPE foam)

This setup creates a firmer platform than previous versions, but also a snappier, more responsive one. The result is a ride that prioritizes responsiveness and speed over an ultra-plush feel. With a 39.5 mm heel stack and a 31.5 mm forefoot stack (8 mm drop), the shoe remains in line with modern super shoe standards and World Athletics regulations.

A redesigned carbon plate

The other major update is the carbon plate. Saucony introduces a slotted plate that retains the longitudinal stiffness needed for propulsion, while adding a little more lateral flexibility through the forefoot. The design delivers:
➜ A smoother ride
➜ A more natural transition
➜ Better adaptability to different running styles

Combined with the familiar SpeedRoll technology, Saucony’s signature rocker, the shoe encourages a quick roll forward and a highly dynamic stride.

Built for faster paces

On the road, the Pro 5’s philosophy is clear enough: it comes alive when the pace picks up. The underfoot feel is firmer than on previous versions, making it especially effective for:
➜ Fast intervals
➜ Tempo sessions
➜ 5K to half-marathon pace

As the intensity rises, the shoe feels extremely lively and delivers excellent energy return. At very easy paces or on relaxed long runs, however, the ride can feel somewhat stiffer and less natural.

This is clearly a shoe that prefers fast workouts to easy jogs. Then again, who still does their easy runs in carbon-plated shoes?

Better durability and grip

Saucony has also redesigned the outsole, adding PWRTRAC rubber. That’s a significant change, since older Endorphin Pro models were sometimes criticized for lacking grip on wet roads. With the new outsole:
✔ Grip is significantly better
✔ Traction is more reliable on wet surfaces
✔ Abrasion resistance has improved

Durability has long been one of the franchise’s strengths. Endorphin Pro models have always been known to last longer than most carbon super shoes. Kudos, Saucony.

A fast shoe... but not for everyone

At a claimed 206 g in the men’s version, the Pro 5 remains very light, even if lighter options are available in this category. Its firmer ride and carbon plate give it a distinct personality:
➜ Highly effective for runners with a powerful stride
➜ Excellent at faster paces
➜ Less suited to runners looking for a very soft ride

As with most super shoes, it will ultimately come down to each runner’s style and biomechanics. But between the Endorphin Pro 5 and the Endorphin Elite 2, there’s a Saucony built for you...

The bottom line

With the Saucony Endorphin Pro 5, the American brand has developed its super shoe into a model that is:
✔ More aggressive
✔ More durable
✔ More versatile for fast training and racing

It’s a logical evolution in a market where runners increasingly want a super shoe that can cover both key workouts and race day. The Pro 5 retains the franchise’s speed-focused DNA, while bringing enough new ideas to open a fresh chapter in the story of one of modern running’s most iconic super shoes.

2026 is shaping up to be a big year for Saucony. Following the high-profile launch of the Endorphin Azura, the new Endorphin Pro 5 enters the carbon-plated shoe market with a makeover that should appeal to runners chasing big PRs. Firm, explosive foam, a redesigned carbon plate and serious energy return at faster paces: the Endorphin Pro 5 checks plenty of boxes. One thing is certain: if your goal is to run fast on race day, there’s a good chance this new Endorphin Pro will be on your feet at your next start line.
