ASICS x Intersport: Point Zéro, an inside look at the build-up to the 2026 Paris Marathon

On January 14, ASICS and Intersport hosted a “Point Zéro” event in the French capital focused on preparation for the 2026 Paris Marathon. Sports workshops and a conference shaped the day, which was organised to mark the unveiling of the GEL-CUMULUS 28 in an exclusive colourway for Intersport.


42.195 km. The mythical distance in running, as fascinating as it is intimidating. Just a few months out from the Paris Marathons, ASICS and Intersport launched “Point Zéro,” an event dedicated to future finishers of the Parisian race.

| “Point Zéro”: understanding each runner’s physiological data

Around a hundred participants were able to benefit from advice on nutrition and osteopathy, as well as gait analysis and running biomechanics. A yoga session and VO₂ max testing also drew plenty of interest from enthusiasts. The goal was clear: to provide expert guidance to help prepare both body and mind for such a demanding and unique challenge.

The day concluded with a lively discussion hosted by Pierre Sedze, featuring several speakers from diverse backgrounds. Among them were ASICS international athlete Yohan Durand, performance consultant Joseph Mestrallet, and Marion Navarro, a member of the Intersport Running Team and second runner-up at Miss France 2023. A keen sports challenge enthusiast, she will line up for her first marathon next April. At the heart of the discussion, the guests shared their experiences, advice and insights surrounding the 42.195 km distance.

| The Paris Marathon and its key statistics

The flagship distance brings the world’s best athletes and complete beginners together on the same starting line. Today, simply crossing the finish line is no longer the sole objective. The pursuit of performance has taken on a central role. While 52% of runners complete the race in under four hours, only 0.19% break the 2:30 barrier.

According to Joseph Mestrallet, each runner generates close to 200,000 data points during a marathon. “The more you take an interest in your training and in understanding your programme, the more you’ll improve your performance,” the specialist emphasised, while also reminding runners that perceived effort remains the most important indicator.

He also noted that women appear to suffer less from the infamous “wall” around the 30-kilometre mark than men. Only 22% of participants manage a negative split, meaning a faster second half than the first. In 2025, 52% of entrants were tackling the 42.195 km distance for the very first time at the Paris race.

If there is one athlete who knows this challenge inside out, it is Yohan Durand. The author of a personal best of 2:09:21, set in Paris in 2021, he shared his valuable insights with the audience. “For a first experience, it’s important to stay conservative with your pace. A marathon is a true physical and mental adventure, a commitment to yourself to make sure you don’t suffer the distance,” explained the multiple-time French international.

Sticking to your race strategy, nutrition plan and a structured training programme are essential ingredients for success. Mental strength also plays a decisive role. When the legs stop responding, the mind has to take over. “In 2021 in Paris, I was really struggling over the final 12 kilometres. To get through it, I made a switch: I lifted my head, spotted the Eiffel Tower and admired it for several kilometres. That helped me clear negative thoughts and stay focused.”
