Euro Marathon Metz 2025 brings the running party back from October 10 to 12

Metz is getting ready to pulse to the rhythm of thousands of footsteps. The marathon returns to Lorraine, much to the delight of local runners. From October 10 to 12, Euro Marathon Metz is shaping up to be the biggest running weekend ever held in the Eurometropolis. Three days of sport, celebration and shared experiences, with nearly 9,000 runners expected on the start line. After months of uncertainty caused by a rare situation in the running world, with two marathons announced for the same day in the same city, there will ultimately be just one marathon in Metz: Euro Marathon Metz. A relief for future finishers, who can finally focus on what matters: running.

The saga of two marathons on the same day is finally settled

The story of Metz’s marathon could have turned into an unprecedented running scenario: two marathons scheduled for the same day in the same city. On one side, Euro Marathon Metz, backed by the Eurometropolis and organized by RNK. On the other, Marathon Metz Mirabelle, staged by the historic association that has been behind the event for more than a decade. For weeks, runners found themselves caught in an administrative saga, with no one really knowing which race would go ahead.
The Moselle prefecture has now made its decision: only Euro Marathon Metz will be authorized on October 12. Entrants in the other race will be refunded, and registration for Euro Marathon Metz is still open (sign up here).

For the vast majority of runners, it is a relief, and the essentials are finally clear: get to the start line, run and enjoy the spirit of the marathon.

A full weekend of running in the heart of Metz

The program promises a huge running celebration: a marathon, two- and four-person relays, the Haganis 10K and the traditional children’s races. Everything will be centered around the race village at Les Arènes, which will serve as the event’s headquarters throughout the weekend. Bib collection, activities, music, community runs and a pre-race party: Metz’s marathon is shaping up to be a true festival for everyone.

For runners taking on the headline distance, the marathon will start at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 12. The 10K follows at 10 a.m., with both races finishing on the forecourt of Centre Pompidou-Metz, a contemporary and symbolic setting for a city where heritage and modernity meet.

A course blending nature, city and culture

The marathon will pass through eight municipalities in the Eurometropolis: Metz, Marly, Montigny-lès-Metz, Moulins-lès-Metz, Longeville, Scy-Chazelles, Le Ban-Saint-Martin and Augny. The course has been designed like a postcard, alternating urban stretches, the banks of the Seille and iconic landmarks.

One of the highlights? Running inside Stade Saint-Symphorien, home of FC Metz, which will be transformed into a temple of running for the occasion. The loop promises plenty of emotion and some memorable photos for football fans.

Dream Olympic ambassadors

The 2025 edition will have a special feel, with runners able to count on the support of two familiar faces from French athletics:
➜ Auriana Lazraq-Khlass, the 2024 European heptathlon silver medallist and a member of Athlétisme Metz Métropole, will be there to cheer on the participants.
➜ Christophe Lemaitre, an Olympic medallist in Rio in 2016, will take part in the four-person relay in a first-of-its-kind role as the fourth runner on an amateur team.

There is little doubt that this dream lineup will inspire both Sunday runners and those chasing a fast time.

An entire city gets behind the event

Euro Marathon Metz also means an entire city transforming for a weekend. Public transport will be adapted to the event and the flow of runners, the streets will come alive and spectators will line the sidewalks. In total, nearly 450 volunteers will be on hand to manage aid stations and coordinate the event.

The race is a perfect example of the current momentum behind running in France: local events are growing in stature, with an atmosphere that can now hold its own against the major marathons. Just 1 hour 20 minutes from Paris by train, Metz is aiming to establish itself as an essential stop on the French autumn racing calendar.
