The streets of Metz were scorching on Sunday, October 12. Personal bests, home victories and international performances combined to make the Euro Marathon Metz a fitting showpiece for an autumn day in Moselle. Florent Pierrat controlled the men’s marathon, Tatiana Proca took the women’s title, while Mehdi Labied and Sandra Lieners thrilled the crowds over 10K. For a few hours, the city came alive as 9,000 runners took over the streets and the spectators brought the noise.

On Sunday, October 12, 2025, Metz turned its streets into a full-blown race stage. Euro Marathon Metz and its supporting events drew 9,000 runners from across France and beyond. Before anyone could lace up, though, there was a bit of fact-checking to do. On October 12, Metz came close to hosting an epic clash between two marathons: Euro Marathon Metz, backed by the metropolitan authority, and Marathon Metz Mirabelle, defended tooth and nail by its long-standing organizing association.

It was an administrative tangle worthy of a courtroom drama, complete with twists and suspense right up to the final minute. In the end, Euro Marathon Metz made it to the start line with the prefect’s approval, while Marathon Metz Mirabelle was cancelled. The situation left more than a few runners scratching their heads, but it did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm on a memorable day of racing. With high-level performances, surprises and plenty of celebration, this edition will stay in the memory for a long time.

Tatiana Proca sets the pace in Metz

Tatiana Proca, a Moldovan based in Luxembourg, made a real impression. Crossing the line in 3:01:03, she claimed the win and 53rd place overall, finishing ahead of Louisa Marion (3:07:30) and Alsatian runner Camille Rodriguez Del Signore (3:10:15). Consistent and methodical, Proca managed her effort throughout the course and drew on the support of the Metz crowd to keep the pace rolling. It was her first international marathon victory, and one she will not forget.

Florent Pierrat delivers a controlled victory

In the men’s race, Florent Pierrat, 36 and a resident of Ban-Saint-Martin in the Metz suburbs, set the tempo and crossed the line in 2:29:26, giving the home crowd plenty to celebrate. Nicolas Fenot, runner-up in 2:32:18, could not hold on through the second half of the course, while Alexandre Tayon completed the podium in 2:34:59. Among the notable local performances was the fine 14th place of Julien François, a Thionville-based coach and former FC Metz player, who finished in 2:49:23. Proof that a passion for running and serious training can sit comfortably alongside a footballing past.

Metz runners take charge over 10K

The 10K gave the local runners their chance to shine. In the men’s race, Mehdi Labied (A2M) scorched to 29:51, ahead of Baptiste Barraud (32:05), also a member of Athlétisme Metz Métropole, and Virgile Boffeli (Montpellier Triathlon, 32:13). In the women’s race, Luxembourg’s Sandra Lieners, who races for Audun-le-Tiche, was first across the line in 35:59, ahead of Belgian runner Caroline Baudinet (36:12) and Laura Ripplinger, timed at 37:47. A powerful, consistent display over a demanding distance.

An atmosphere worthy of the occasion

Beyond the times, Metz moved to the rhythm of its runners. The course passed through eight municipalities, serving up varied scenery and historic sections that delighted participants. Large, enthusiastic crowds turned every street corner into a wall of sound. With music, entertainment and inventive aid stations along the way, every stride seemed to draw energy from the city.

This edition also showcased the breadth of French running: elites chasing the clock, amateurs looking to push their limits, and international runners ready to make their mark in the Moselle capital. The smiles, the effort and the post-race conversations all underlined what a marathon is at heart: a popular celebration, a shared experience where everyone has a place, whether they finish in 2:30 or four hours.

Metz, a city on the run

Euro Marathon Metz 2025 proved that the city is more than a backdrop: it becomes part of the show, a partner in every stride and an extra breath for every runner. With personal bests, prestigious victories and memorable moments, this edition will be remembered as a day when sport and a warm welcome went hand in hand.

Florent Pierrat, Tatiana Proca, Mehdi Labied, Sandra Lieners... names that will echo through the streets of Metz for a long time yet, reminding everyone that the city knows how to transform itself each year into an ideal playground for passionate runners.
