French U20 1500 m champion in 2018 and U23 champion in 2021, Quentin Malriq is launching Mouvment, his running club backed by ASICS, with the aim of bringing together people from a wide range of backgrounds through running. The first meetup is set for the first Thursday in March in Paris.

On the evening of Thursday, March 5, Quentin Malriq, who has been entrusted by ASICS with launching a running club, will welcome runners and curious newcomers looking for something different. Keen to break away from the usual crew format, the former track athlete announced Mouvment’s first meetup on social media with an original video blending running and art.

The club was born from a mix of different backgrounds, brought together by running, “a place that makes them feel good and represents them”. From a painter to a pianist, and of course a runner, the central idea guiding Quentin Malriq is simple: “moving forward together”. “For most clubs, running is the end goal.” He wants to use running as a way to build connections and give people the chance to meet.

A collective adventure

To bring the project to life, the former EA Grenoble 38 athlete, who ran a 3:35.89 1500 m in 2023, surrounded himself with close friends whose skills span a range of disciplines. His friend and graphic designer Antoine Maignan helped shape the visual identity and design the logo, “a very important element because it’s a way to stand out,” says Quentin Malriq. They chose simplicity and impact: a minimalist purple human figure in motion, drawn with a thick, slightly irregular line and a grainy finish, set against a pale yellow background. The image captures the crew’s guiding principle, movement, while radiating energy and creativity.

For the jingle, he turned to a musician friend. “We worked on it together,” Quentin Malriq explains. “And in a few days, we’ll release a video about his work, what he does, what it brings him, and how he defines movement.” He has also brought actors on board to film a monthly web series. The first episodes are in preparation. Malriq is clearly enjoying managing the team and creating quality content to draw in curious newcomers. The project follows naturally from his studies in the creative industries. “I love being behind the camera, telling stories and directing,” he says. “I spent a year studying film last year, through the 1000 Visages association. And I’m getting to do that again with the web series.”

The aim remains the same: to put each world in the spotlight, with running as the common thread, creating opportunities to meet and sparking creativity. “Crossing paths with new people and hearing their stories, that’s what makes you creative,” he says. And ultimately, “the real question is: what will come out of all this?” Beyond a straightforward group run, Quentin Malriq is already imagining other ways to stand apart: “run-dwich” sessions with Cercer, a shop run by friends, as well as evenings soundtracked by his friend and DJ Max Ken, who will mix and bring energy to the event.

A club for every generation

The team’s range of disciplines is also intended to show that everyone has a place in this running club. “You don’t need to run a sub-30-minute 10K, you don’t need to have run ten marathons, and you don’t need to train seven times a week,” he insists, determined to make the crew as welcoming as possible. “Even if you ran at school and don’t run much anymore, you absolutely have a place here,” he adds.

Above all, the crew aims to be intergenerational. “If your mother runs once a month or every six months, she can come along and she’ll feel at home,” says Quentin, whose mother will also feature in upcoming posts. The woman in her fifties is preparing to start her first marathon in Paris. “For her 50th birthday, I gave her a poisoned gift. She had already run half marathons, but she’d put this project on hold. Now she’s training and really enjoying it,” says her enthusiastic son, ready to line up alongside her for the marathon distance.

The meetup is set for the evening of March 5, with the exact time to be announced soon on the @Mouvmentrc page’s social media, at the ASICS store at 24 rue Aubry-le-Boucher, near Châtelet. The group will head out for a 6 to 8 km run along the river, wearing a T-shirt designed specially for the occasion.
