42.195 km / 4 km
Every spring, the Paris Marathon brings together tens of thousands of runners from around the world for 42.195 km through the capital. Much more than just a running race, the event gives participants the chance to take over Paris's grand avenues for a morning. The course follows the Seine, offers views of iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the unmissable Haussmannian façades, then heads east to the Bois de Vincennes and west to the Bois de Boulogne. This alternation between urban areas and tree-lined sections creates varied sensations throughout the race.
The atmosphere also contributes to the reputation of the Paris Marathon: thousands of spectators line the pavements and bands provide music along the route, offering real support when fatigue sets in. This collective energy, shared with runners of all nationalities, gives the event its international and friendly character. The organisers support participants with starting pens based on target times and regular refreshment stations. Known for being relatively accessible, despite a few false flats that require careful effort management, the Paris Marathon is suitable both for runners targeting a personal time and for those crossing the finish line for the first time.
Every year, more than 145 different nationalities gather on the starting line, making the Paris Marathon one of the most cosmopolitan races in the world.
The event's iconic oldest participant, Charly Bancarel, completed the race in 2023 at the exceptional age of 93.
