Italy is a country of breathtaking beauty — famous for its cuisine, art, and timeless culture. After the Rome Marathon, the Florence Marathon is considered the second most popular marathon in Italy. In 2025, around 10,000 runners are expected to take part in the race, scheduled for November 30. Before they can enjoy a course steeped in history and Italian charm, runners must first go through the essential step: registration.

Wondering how to register for the Florence Marathon — one of Italy’s most iconic races — and secure your bib? Here’s everything you need to know.

| Online Registration — No Lottery Required

In recent editions, participation numbers have varied — with 3,751 finishers in 2021 compared to 5,792 in 2019. For 2025, organizers expect a record turnout, with 10,000 runners set to start from Piazza del Duomo, right in the heart of Florence.

Unlike many major marathons — particularly the World Marathon Majors such as London, New York, Berlin, Chicago, Boston, Tokyo, or Sydney — the Florence Marathon does not use a lottery system. — the Florence Marathon does not use a lottery or ballot system. Registration is first come, first served, and remains open until all bibs are sold.

For the 2025 edition, registration was still available in mid-October, but generally, sign-ups open in January. If you’re dreaming of running through the streets of Florence next year, keep an eye on the official website — early birds get the bibs.

| Group Registration

More and more race organizers are offering group registration options, making the process easier for teams or running clubs. Instead of multiple individual sign-ups, one person can register an entire group at once.

At the Florence Marathon, this option is available for groups of at least five runners. A dedicated counter at the Marathon Expo allows one representative to collect all bibs and race kits, with priority service to streamline the process.

In addition, group participants can benefit from discounted rates through the marathon’s partner hotels, making it a convenient choice for clubs or groups of friends traveling together.

| All-Inclusive Packages — Run Florence, Stress-Free

If you want to experience the Florence Marathon without worrying about logistics, partner travel agencies offer all-inclusive packages that take care of everything. These typically include a guaranteed bib, hotel accommodation, local transfers, and sometimes even guided cultural tours or support services for runners and their families.

This type of registration is ideal if you’d rather focus on the race — and the experience — than on paperwork. Packages vary depending on your preferences and budget, but all allow you to enjoy a Florentine getaway combining sport, culture, and “la dolce vita.”

| Entry Fees and Registration Periods

In past years, registration remained open until just a few days before race day. But with running’s growing popularity and the Florence Marathon’s rising appeal, demand is increasing rapidly.

For 2025, the entry fee started at €65 during the early registration phase. From April 1, and then every three months thereafter, the price increased by €10. Registration closes on November 20, roughly ten days before the race.

With 10,000 runners expected, the event is set to reach a new record — so it’s best to register early to secure your spot.

Come for the art, the food, the architecture, and stay for the marathon. Running through Florence is like running through an open-air museum — past Renaissance masterpieces, cobblestoned streets, and the iconic Ponte Vecchio. The Florence Marathon offers the perfect blend of travel, discovery, and personal challenge. And unlike many major European races, registration remains accessible and straightforward — a rare treat for a world-class event.
